Technology of Para-aramid Fiber Production

Process Technology Route

Para-aramid, also known as Aramid II or Aramid 1414, is chemically known as poly-p- phenylene terephthamide (PPTA). As a high-performance fiber, it has the advantages of high strength, high modulus, high temperature resistance and low density. It is used in aerospace, defense and military industry, rope and fiber optic cable, sports and leisure.
The production process of PPTA consists of two main production processes: resin polymerization and spinning.
The resin polymerization process is to prepare PPTA resin by intermittent low temperature solution polycondensation reaction using p-phenylenediamine (PPD) and terephthaloyl chloride (TPC) as monomers and NMP/CaCl2 as solvent.
Spinning process is to wash and dry the resin, then dissolve the resin in spinning solvent (sulfuric acid) to prepare spinning solution, and then make PPTA fiber products through dry spraying and wet method liquid crystal spinning process.

Process Technology Characteristics

This technology adopts two-step process, which has the advantages of high product yield, good quality, high safety coefficient, simple process, small number of equipments, reasonable utilization of heat energy, high automation level, safety and reliability of the device, and so on.
Batch polymerization process is adopted, and the properties of polymeric materials are stable.
Adopting vacuum defoaming technology, which has successfully solved the defoaming problem of high viscosity solution in spinning process, significantly reduced the degradation rate of polymer in spinning process, and improved the efficiency and stability of spinning process.
